Delayed Post of Jedediah Smith Redwood State Park......Friday 22nd August.....

Happy Anniversary to us.....5 years since our 30th party, how times fly when you're having fun :)
After stopping off at the Chevrolet Garage to top up the DEF (all part and parcel of life on the road)  we head into the Jedediah Redwoods State Park...... even on the short drive to the rangers station we can get an idea of the size of these magnificent trees.....my photographers model, Yorkieman, in an attempt to give an idea of size.....not an easy subject to photograph, the trees not the man....
The redwoods have no taproot, their roots on average only go 10 to 13 feet deep.....
The size of this and other fallen trees reminds us of the Saturn 5 rocket on show at the NASA Space Centre....
Some of these Redwoods are 2000 years old......
Sunlight on some of the many ferns........100 inches of rain falls in this area in winter....
Redwoods are the world's tallest trees reaching heights of 380 feet...and b*****y difficult to photograph !
A diameter of 22 ft....the tree not me...yet, but if I keep eating Reeses' Peanut Butter Cups ......

Lunchtime sandwich sitting in our Derby and Joan chairs absorbing the view of the Smith River....
Howland Hill Scenic Drive.....6 miles of gravel/dirt road (this is the road) that snakes along an old wagon route through a forest of giant redwoods......many pull-outs to stop for hikes or just to admire these amazing trees....
In groves along the Howland Drive are some of the oldest and biggest trees in the park....
As a fellow traveller said of the redwoods "it's hard to find words to describe them"
Our truck and sunlight filtering through to the road....
From trees to the coast and the morning fog/mist has cleared by late afternoon.....at this time of year the three digit temperatures inland drag the fog/mist in making it unusual to have a clear coastline...
But we are lucky this afternoon and get a good clear view of  Battery Point Lighthouse at Crescent City, one of the oldest lighthouses on the California Coast...
The sun going down on another fantastic day for the Happy Travellers....talking of the sun going down it must be time for the evening "sundowners"....Cheers :)
