Wine Tasting and Old Town Sacramento......27th & 28th August 2014

We are having a great visit with John and Pam, meeting up after 3 years and spending time in their lovely home catching up with stories of our respective travels...
Today we head out to the beautiful Amador County area to sample some really good wines.....

One of the many views across the vineyards.....
Pam, John and Michael at our third winery and time for delicious cheese tastings too....
John and Pam's patio.....ideal to sit out here in the cool of the morning and evening.......we are experiencing temps of high 90's into three digits...(not a complaint)
Our home on wheels perfectly parked outside of their home....
The courtyard entrance to John and Pam's
Old Town Sacramento.....
A must do visit to the railroad depot.....

A feature of Sacramento.....the "golden" lifting bridge over the Sacramento River.....
The Pony Express Statue.....
.More than 1,800 miles in 10 days! From St. Joseph, Missouri, to Sacramento, California the Pony Express could deliver a letter faster than ever before.
In operation for only 18 months between April 1860 and October 1861, the Pony Express nevertheless has become synonymous with the Old West. In the era before electronic communication, the Pony Express was the thread that tied East to West......

It was soooo hot (102F) we just had to pop into The Old Firehouse...now a bar and restaurant...
The Happy Travellers and Pam....
The State Capitol....the design is based on the US Capitol Building in Washington DC, the building was completed in 1874...the California Senate seats it's 40 members in a large red chamber room a reference to the British House of Lords....The California Assembly chamber is located at the opposite of the building with the green tones based on the British House of Commons....
Some excitement as we pass by, TV cameras and a protest group wanting independence for Northern California....
Our generous hosts have made our visit very special....until our paths cross again, hopefully in England, we have to say thank you and au revoir....
Tomorrow we move onto Yosemite......
More soon from The Very Happy Travellers....
