Sequoia to Barstow to Hurricane, Utah..... 5th & 6th Sept 2014

We say farewell to the incredible Sequoia and our campsite at Three Rivers and head back through beautiful landscape  to the 99 South ...
After miles and miles and acres and acres of vines, pecan, almond and citrus trees we hit the 58 East (really a continuation of the I-40 from Barstow) and head across the desert.....
A hillside of "mini" windmills...my jury is still out about wind-farms ....
I'm happy, not seen one of these for what seems like weeks...
Overnighting in Barstow, CA, temperatures over 100 F......we stayed here on a previous trip and discovered. Peggy Sue's 50's Diner.....great food, great memorabilia (the owners used to work in Hollywood) at reasonable prices....and yes of course we sat at the counter....
Day 2 of our journey and we pick up the I-15 at Barstow and once again head east across the desert to Hurricane, Utah.....look closely and there are two of us.....
One of our rest stops...us and the truckers.....

Into Nevada....this casino community flourishes in the middle of the desert.....
Las Vegas....the I-15 goes straight through Vegas running parallel with The Strip....
surprising traffic was not as bad as we had expected and we just had to hold our lane....
The famous Stratosphere......
And back into the desert.....we have driven part of this stretch last trip when visiting Vegas and the Vally of Fire...
And into Arizona.....but only for 30 miles....
The beautiful "painted desert" effect of the mesas....
And into Utah...and now on Mountain Time Zone so gain and hour, now 7 behind UK....temperatures still over 100  F...both a/c units flat out and in fact the first time the living area a/c has come on during the night...
We are here in Hurricane a very neat and tidy little town to visit Zion National Park...
Early start tomorrow to see as much as possible as our camp host tells us they expect rain on Monday...
