Port Angeles & Cape Flattery.....5th & 6th August 2014....

Birthday Boy Yorkieman admiring one of the many sculptures at the wharf in Port Angeles.......

The pier and viewpoint, it's a bit hazy today but we can see Victoria on Vancouver Island, only 18 miles across the sea.....
Birthday Boy and truck on the 3 mile spit accessed through a huge paper mill, luckily the owner of the campsite had told us not to be concerned when we reached the gates of the paper mill but to pass on through......
We then spent a lovely afternoon at the home of Autumn and Chris who we met in Arizona last November. They live in Port Angeles just 4 miles from our campsite....this is a view of the Elwha River from their deck. It was interesting to hear a different point of view about the dam removal as their land is being eroded by the new course of the river.....
Next day and a long drive to Cape Flattery on the North West Coast....
Early in the drive we pass beautiful Crescent Lake, we will come this way again when we move on to our next stop so good to get a feel for the winding narrow road, it's a 35 MPH road with plenty of pull-outs if needed so actually OK...
The Strait of Juan de Fuca which separates Vancouver island from Washington State....
The drifting sea mist or fog as the locals call it....

Vancouver Island behind a stretch of sea mist....

At one of the scenic viewpoints we spot a grey whale....it was a long way out to sea hence not a lot to see in the photo !!
The trailhead at Cape Flattery...a steep mile downhill hike through the forest to the viewpoint...to me the forest had a really "creepy" feel like something from Twilight......
Part of the boardwalk section of the trail.....
Phew out into the light and the Pacific Coast.....
Mother sea gull and her 3 chicks....
The Cape Flattery Lighthouse on Tatoosh Island.....this is a another milestone for us as this is the most Northwestern point in the contiguous US......

It is also windy much like Cape St Vincent in Portugal.....
A long drive to get here but we had a good day......
More soon from The Travelling Brits.....
