Crescent City to Rancho Cordova.....Monday 25th & Tuesday 26th August....

"On The Road Again"...and Dallas Wayne plays our song this morning on Willie's Roadhouse....
A beautiful drive along the 199 north, 80 miles from Crescent City to Grants Pass...a scenic winding road narrow in places.....don't you just love signs that say "road narrows" when you are already on a narrow road.....
For the first 30 miles or so "we have us a convoy" of fifth wheelers...:) lots of turn-out and slow vehicle spots to let the snake behind the three of us pass....Ken Bruce would be much impressed.....
And we are back in Oregon...we have to go north today to then go south....
Later on the I-5 we are again in California.......
This photo is taken from the I-5 of the 14,000 ft volcanic Mount Shasta.....
And this is the 12,000 ft  Mount Shastina a satellite "cone" of Mount Shasta....
Shasta Lake near our overnight stop at Redding at a delightful small campsite with easy access from the I-5......
The 3 year California drought is clearly shown in this photo....and the temperatures rise as we get farther south....
Today it's a straightforward drive south 157 miles to Sacramento passing mile after mile and acre after acre, walnut, almond and olive trees and rice "paddies" also of course the closer we get to Sacramento acres of vines....
We are staying for a couple of days in Rancho Cordova with John and Pam some lovely folks we met in 2011 on our Asia tour.....we had a lovely and fun afternoon and evening with them, catching up on our respective travels and reminiscing about our Asian trip....so good to see them again....

  1. Hi Sue & Michael,
Love the photos of the Redwoods what sights they are. It`s hard to believe that they exist on such a small root system.
Belated congratulations on your anniversary 5 years since your 30th hard to believe.
Can`t get "on the road again " out of my head good old Willie.
Enjoy the vines in Sacramento you will be able to do some food pairing with the olives.
    Have Fun
    Cheers,
    Ann & Dave
