Logan Pass.....St Mary Falls, Glacier N P.....Thursday 24th July

This and next photo were the interesting cloud formations on Tuesday evening.....after the forecast we decided to stay local yesterday, annoyingly it turned into a really beautiful blue sky day but we really did need to try to sort the blinds problem....Plan B went out off the window as the RV supplies and service places we visited were unable to help, basically the blinds are a pain to rethread, they have some sort of crossover thread system.....they are fitted on most RVs !!!!! However one store gave us a contact number for a small local firm that does repair them...yippeee....upshot was alarm call this morning at crack of sparrow to take the blinds back down to Kalispell for repair and pick up on Saturday....

We head back into the park and take the park shuttle up to Logan Pass, after yesterdays fabulous blue skies the cloud gets thicker as we climb to the 6646 ft at Logan which again on our travels is on the Continental Divide......
This photo makes the mountain appear to be on fire.....
Down in Columbia Falls where we are staying the clouds were thinning and quite a bit of blue but up at Logan Pass it is
44 F and snowing !!!!! The upside is no mosquitoes :)
Descending down the other side of the mountain east to the  St Mary's Park Entrance the skies are blue, fascinating difference but that is the fickle mountain weather.....
We get off the shuttle at the St Mary Falls trailhead and hike down the mile trail to the falls, elevation drop of 260 ft which of course is a 260 ft hike back uphill.....
But boy was it so worth the hike...these are fabulous falls, so powerful and the water so very clear....

I've got some fantastic video but so far I have not been able to upload videos to blog so will have to wait until we get home and them I'll upload to FB (I don't advertise on FB we are away)
We met a really sweet couple here, he was 85 years young and had the most amazing old camera, he said it was as almost as old as him, it was a stereo camera and of course film (there is just one company in New York where he can still buy the film) once again another reminder why we are travelling apart from the sights we meet so many interesting people...

St Mary Lake....

And St Mary Lake looking back towards Logan Pass....
From the trailhead we then hike a mile and half along to Baring Falls then up to the road to catch the shuttle back to Logan Pass. You need to change at Logan for the decent down The Going To The Sun Road to Apgar....
It is very cold even in Columbia Falls but we have had such a fabulous day in the park, it truly is the most amazing place...
Early alarm again tomorrow....we are driving The Road to the east entrance and then onto Many Glaciers....
See tomorrows post for the next instalment......
The Very Happy Campers.....

  1. Hi Sue & Michael,
Welcome back we were about to send out a search party in the absence of updates. All looks good sorry to hear about the rain, but the falls look spectacular. Once again you are impressing us with your fitness levels, I must get some exercise.
Hope you get the pesky blinds fixed, and the alarm call was not too early.
We are still enjoying super hot weather here, bbq again tonight, but torrential rain reported in the South East today.
    Keep on tucking
    Cheers,
    Ann & Dave
