Hoodsport to Port Angeles........4th August

Just a short post today to update our journey from Hoodsport to Port Angeles ....a short 90 mile drive up along the Hood Canal.....in parts a narrow winding road and slow going as we often needed to pull into a turn-out or scenic viewpoint, it is illegal to have a queue of 5 or more vehicles behind you..... this photo is of one of the many bridges over the creeks and rivers emptying into the canal....
The lovely view from one of the pull-outs....as well as getting shot of our tail it was also a good  opportunity for a comfort stop and coffee and cookies...
Vancouver Island is just 18 miles by ferry from Port Angeles.....not on our itinerary for this trip as we did we visit the island in 2011....
Our campsite and home for the next 3 days is The Elwha Dam RV Park walking distance from the largest dam removal in The United States history....demolition began in 2011 almost a 100 years after completion of the dam...
When the dam was built it did not provide for fish passage to the spawning grounds...
The whole area is undergoing a major restoration program with 67,000 seedlings planted to restore native vegetation......the  salmon are beginning to return.....
It was a good walk, about half a mile down to the the river a good leg stretch.....
I did think about having The Dam Busters March (Eric Coates) for song of the day but I thought that would be a bit cheesy!!
Camp Harris....a sunny spot for pre dinner sundowners.....
Tomorrow we're meeting up with some folks who live here in Port Angeles who we met in Arizona last November  and seeing some of the local area.....
